Seller Must Bring:

  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license or Pennsylvania photo ID cardIf your license doesn't show your current address, bring your signed yellow address update card
  • Pennsylvania Certificate of TitleIf your title is held by a lienholder, you must obtain the physical paper title before transfer
  • Current odometer reading

Buyer Must Bring:

  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license or Pennsylvania photo ID cardIf your license doesn't show your current address, bring your signed yellow address update card
  • Proof of valid insurance in the buyer's nameDoes not need to be for the specific vehicle, but must be active on the date of sale. If the insurance card is not in the buyer's name, the buyer must be listed on the policy and provide written proof.
  • Registration card for any plate being transferredIf you don't have a plate, we can issue a new one
  • All buyers listed on the new title must be present to sign
  • Payment for title transfer fees, sales tax, and registration feesSales tax is typically 6%, but may be higher in Allegheny (7%) or Philadelphia (8%) counties

Additional Notes:

  • Safety and emissions inspection: If the vehicle does not have valid stickers, it must be inspected within 10 days of purchase.
  • Form MV-4ST: This form is completed by the notary or PennDOT agent during the transaction.
  • Out-of-state titles: Additional steps may apply, including VIN verification.
